英语四级易混淆词汇

1.常见易混多义词（下面罗列的均为有关单词的不常见意义，其常见用法就不详细阐述了）

 

right        权利。Women didn’t enjoy equal rights with men in those days.

 

business     事情。Take care of your own business.

 

cut         伤口。I got a deep cut in my right hand.

 

sweet       糖果。Help yourself to some sweets, please.

 

board       登机。Please take your luggage and get ready to board flight 5129.

 

tree ring     年轮。Scientists are able to see the age of plants by checking their tree rings.

 

treat        名词：款待，宴请。It’s now my turn to give you a treat.

 

动词：对待。She treats this little boy as her own son.

 

lay

 

动词原形：下（蛋）。The bird lays eggs in its nest. lie的过去式：He got exhausted and lay down on the grass.

 

reproduce / reproduction繁殖，生育。They reproduce extremely fast in favorable conditions.

 

present

 

名词：赠品，礼物。This is the best present I’ve got today.

 

动词：介绍；提出Each scholar presented a different theory at the meeting.

 

miss   错过。名词：后背。The old man is carrying a bag on the back.

 

支持。Backed up by the whole family, he passed the test with ease.

 

raise  抚养。Raising children is a rewarding task.

 

bargain

 

名词：便宜货。It’s a real bargin and only costs 10 dollars.

 

动词：讨价还价。现在虚的东西太多，所以建议大家买东西一定bargin with the seller。

ruin        破坏，损坏。ruin one’s reputation.

 

rule        统治；规章。The king ruled the country for half a century; 这个学校有很严格的school rules，每个game都有自己的rules，不能随便地break the rules。

 

attitude     态度。What’s his attitude toward my proposal?

 

gratitude    感谢。I just want to extend my gratitude for your help.

 

reservation  预定。Make a reservation for a ticket for tonight’s show. Remember to make a reservation for a corner table.

 

conversation 对话，谈话。This is a private conversation.

 

inquire     询问。许多学生考试之后心里没底，都想inquire about the result of the test.

 

acquire     获得（能力，知识等）。acquire the skill of ……

 

require     要求。

 

response    反应。生物学家研究的一个重要课题就是生物对各种stimulation作出的response。

 

responsible  有责任的，负责的。He is a responsible man.

 

compete    竞争。在优胜劣态的自然进化中，creatures都在compete for the limited resources.

 

complete   完成。

 

pass       通过。Pass CET4.

 

past       过去。It’s a thing of the past, just forget about it.

 

path       小路。I found a small path to the depth of the forest.

 

lawn      草地。周末的时候weed the lawn（给草地除杂草）是西方人很喜欢的事情，因为既是一种exercise, 也能改善居住环境，和乐而不为呢？

 

long      渴求，渴望。在喧嚣的生活之余，人们总是long for peace。

 

least     最少。She is always the one who eats the least. 因为她希望能lost weight 。

 

list      名单，单子。出去购物之前由于要买的东西，所以最好列个shopping list，免得忘了什么。name list就很简单了，就是平时所说的名单。

very   非常。
